The Pulau Selat Kering Rescue Mission 2009

In May 2009, news of dogs from the island Pulau Ketam, was being ignorantly dumped in the mangrove islands nearby. This was done to curb the overpopulation of stray dogs at Pulau Ketam. With much horror, the dogs were ferried to the mangrove islands and left to fend for themselves, without shelter and proper food. A rescue mission was underway to rescue these dogs from their state of despair.
The Pulau Selat Kering Rescue Mission May 2009 was subsequently formed. A total of 28 dogs were saved and brought to Furry Friends Farm during the rescue mission. However, 4 did not manage to survive their ordeal. These are the true, real life stories of the fortunate dogs that was rescued, survived and now, currently call Furry Friends Farm their home. The surviving dogs were all given thorough medical treatment and rehabilitation at the farm.

During the Rescue Mission, 2 very brave and intelligent heroes, Hitam & Kuning, assisted greatly by guiding some their canine friends to safety from the mangrove island. Both of them had belonged to the fish farm. In the amazing story of Grace, this very courageous dog had swam all the way from the mangrove island to the fish farm. Hitam greeted Grace and led her to have a meal at the lower deck of the platform. Grace was subsequently rescued, given medical treatment, rehabilitation and is currently enjoying her life at Furry Friends Farm.
Let us take a walk down memory lane to see how excited Hitam & Kuning in receiving Grace at the fish farm after Grace had successfully swam herself courageously across the Straits of Malacca to reach us ...
Sadly, Hitam had passed away in October 2009 due to poisoning at the fish farm. Kuning is now at Furry Friends Farm. Although the Rescue Mission has ended, yet their heroic deeds and intelligence will never be forgotten. A testament to the truth that dogs are indeed “man’s best friend”.

Although there were those who had fought to survived, some of the dogs rescued was unable to withstand the stress and despair of being abandoned and left to die at the mangrove island. As illnesses sets in and immune systems grew weaker, Chloe, Kipper and Serene succumbed to the Parvo Virus as Desiree passed away due to liver failure. We greatly grief and miss them dearly ...
