Story of Jasper - Our Friendly Strays Risk Their Lives Due to Cruelty of Humankind

ABOVE : A stoic and silent Jasper : He didn't deserve such cruelty

- 16th September 2009 -

Another heart-breaking example of cruelty cum ignorance, that many Malaysians so casually and typically displayed towards animals, surfaced recently.

Look at the photos attached. All the photos speak more than a thousand words. What is the thought that comes to mind when you see these photos? What if this was to happen to you?  Or to your child or someone loved by you? Would you want to be in the poor dog’s place?  Won’t you cry out with pain and outrage? Won’t you want someone to tend to you and help you with the injuries? Won’t you be outraged at the wrong done to you? At being left for dead after being hit! Won’t you be angry and cursing the person who did this to you and left you for dead? But the dog didn’t curse the person who ran over him and left him for dead. He smiled and wagged his tail at Sabrina when Sabrina took him to the vet!!

Why didn’t any Malaysians help the poor dog? (It was the compassionate foreign workers who tried to help the dog). Why didn’t anyone cry out at the injustice and wrong and injury wrought on this hapless animal?  What is wrong with our society, what is wrong with us if we are silent whenever this happens and we feel nothing at all …

More than a week ago, last Wednesday 9 September 2009 to be exact, Sabrina was horrified to find out that a dog was left to die by a cruel car or truck driver after having been terribly injured in a suspected hit-and-run accident on the Saturday before (5 September 2009). The location is in Kundang and coincidentally, near Furry Friends Farm. Taken to see the dog, Sabrina was aghast and shocked to see the condition of the dog; yes, the dog was still alive 5 days after its accident but horrifically wounded and without proper medical attention and care during those horrifying days after the accident. In the words of Sabrina as she described her encounter with the plucky dog she named Jasper…

“Towards the end of our conversation, one of them casually mentioned that the foreign workers were keeping a stray dog with half of its face gone after a car accident on last Saturday.”

“Immediately I said," What?" The two Chinese men requested me to follow them to the hostel and they were not sure if the dog was already dead. The moment I got down from my car, one of the Chinese man called up the foreign workers to look for the dog. The dog was seen lying under a car with a plate of rice placed near to it.”

“The dog came out after hearing the calls from the foreign workers. The poor dog's appearance shocked me and immediately, Joy's image with his broken lower jaw flashed across my mind. I wanted to cry but strongly holding on to my tears, I repeatedly telling myself NOT TO CRY! BUT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!”

“Immediately i took out my camera and the saddest part was the dog looked at me and wagged its tail. It closed its eyes after that. I was telling him in my heart, "My darling, you are reallly in great trouble !!!"”

“Jasper suffers from a half broken skull with brain exposed, his left eye completely damaged but still stuck within the skull. Bruises and scratches in many parts of its body and torn tissues with fresh wound on its right front leg.

Jasper sweet and trusting - why would anyone want to harm him?

“Within a second, the foreign workers got me a big box to load this poor dog into my car.  The poor dog is so friendly, so brave, neither crying nor struggling. Very silent along the way to the vet clinic in Kepong.   Its happens to be the Ghost Praying for the lunar month, hence, I named this dog Jasper.”

“Dr Kiew, the attending vet, shooked its head at the beginning, but I really hoped that he would tell me himself that he Will Try to treat this poor dog. And Yes, after pausing a second, he told me that he Will Try! Jasper seems to have been fed regularly as he is still having quite a bit of body weight.”

“His determination to live after the fifth day of mishap prompted me to make a very strong decision in not Putting Him Down.”

“But, he is still surviving as if he knows that someone will be attending to him.

The foreign workers are kind enough to keep him alive but the sad thing was they treated him wrongly in sprinkling Sulphur onto its severe wound and ultimately worsening the injuries.”

“Jasper is a 2 years old dog, a healthy dog despite its severe injuries.”

“Let's hope for the best.”

Furry Friends Farm's Successful Testimonials :

  1. Joy, a friendly stray being cruelly beaten  by construction workers at Selayang construction site until he suffered from a broken lower jaw. Joy lost his lower jaw permanently due to Human's Cruelty.

  2. Jojo, a friendly dog lost his front left leg after being crushed by the owner's car tyre while he was sound asleep under the car. Jojo lost his front leg permanently for Human's carelessness and being abandoned at the clinic by the owner because he was left three legged.

  3. Jewel, a friendly stray met with car accident twice and had ultimately lost one of her hind leg. Jewel remained as a three-legged dog, a reminder of the carelessness and heartless of Mankind.

“We are proud that Joy, Jojo and Jewel are happily settling at Furry Friends farm and are being appointed as FFF Ambassadors.”

“Well, we are all here walking along with the furry kids. And.... yes,  they will never be alone. Furry Friends Farm is specially created for all these unfortunate KIDS!”
