NST Streets - May 25th, 2010 : Owners Unleash Harmony In Walk
PETALING JAYA: More than 100 dog owners and their pets gathered to "Walk For Harmony" at Atria Shopping Complex in Damansara Jaya.
The event organised by Furry Friends Farm (FFF) and Dr Dog Malaysia is a collaboration with Animal Asia Foundation, a Hong Kong-based organisation known globally for its work to rescue the moon bear and its campaign to stop the eating of dogs and cats in China.
The event kicked off with the walk from the car park of Atria. The walk was a symbol of the harmonious bond between humans and animals.
It was beautiful to watch dog lovers from all walks of life coming together under one roof.
Later, a birthday celebration was held for Hope, the fourth ambassador FFF.
Hope was the first dog rescued from the Pulau Selat Kering in Port Klang.
About 28 dogs were rescued from Pulau Selat Kering and living in FFF.
Four have died of diseases, a result of the grim conditions they lived through on the island.
It was also Hope's first trip out from the farm after a year of successful rehabilitation.
The fundraising event continued with more fun activities for owners and animals.
The event ended with the evaluation of prospective candidates for Dr Dog, an animal-therapy programme that highlights the positive role that companion animals can play in society.
Dr Sammi, Dr Chloe and Dr Snowball became part of the Dr Dog team, which visits homes for the elderly, disabled and orphans in Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan.
Furry Friends Farm is a "no kill" animal sanctuary in Kundang, Selangor, which houses around 100 unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs.
Formed in 2006, FFF has successfully rescued many dogs from abuse and cruelty.
Its rescue missions include the high-profile Pulau Ketam case.
