Farewell, Old Man @ Uncle, Sleep In Peace ...
Old Man, the oldest male dog rescued from Klang had passed away peacefully on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year at the vet clinic. This is the oldest dog received by Furry Friends Farm when he was spotted by animal lover in Klang. Someone had intentionally abandoned an old dog left without a single tooth roaming by the roadside.
Old Man was a very sweet natured mongrel and he survived without having a single tooth for more than six months at Furry Friends Farm.
Elderly dog needs a lot of attention especially when it encounters movement difficulties and digestive failures. As in this case, X-ray was taken to identify the compressed back bone formed that hindered the movement of Old Man as explained by the vet.
Dogs more than 7 years encounter the deformity of backbone especially small size dog with short legged. The degree of deformity of the backbone is also related to the lifestyle, diet and heredity of the dog. The compression of the backbone makes the dog difficult in supporting his body weight , hence the dog tends to walk less and sometimes due to pain and weakness of the muscle to continue its movements. The compression of the back bone can also affect the neurological system and may lead to the bone snapping and causes paralyses.
Old Man encountered indigestion due to the failure of the internal organs and eventually he was on drips to keep him hydrated. He stayed awake until the visitation of Furry Friends Farm's volunteers before making his last three barks and passed away peacefully at 6 o'clock in the evening of the 3rd day of Chinese New Year.
